Next generation Gigabit Ethernet stackable 3750 switch from Cisco.

The innovative Cisco 3750 series brings features previously only available in large chassis to affordable, mid-priced stackable switches.

The Cisco 3750 series uses Cisco's new StackWise technology, optimised for Gigabit Ethernet and designed to respond to additions to, and deletions from the stack with no interruption in connectivity. Previously, Gigabit to the desktop from stackable switches could only be achieved with Gigabit Gbics. Using this method, connectivity would be lost while the Gbics ran a loop detection algorithm to integrate the new additions/deletions.

What new features does the Cisco Catalyst 3750 series offer?

• Availability - automatic failover: The 3750 series increases availability for stackable switches. Each switch can act as a master controller or as a forwarding processor, meaning that in the unlikely event of a failure of one of the switches in a stack, the others will continue to operate as normal and connectivity will not be lost.
  
  
• Ease of use - Plug and Play Gigabit Ethernet: When switches are added to the stack or removed, the master switch will automatically update all routing tables to reflect the changes. There is no delay whilst the changes are picked up and there is no interruption to connectivity.
  
  
• Scalability - how many ports do you need? The Cisco Catalyst 3750 series allows up to 9 switches to be stacked together. This gives a maximum of 468 10/100 ports or 252 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports. Configurations can be mixed and matched in the stack to meet network requirements.
  
  
• Mix-and-Match Switches: Requirements can often change as a business develops, and the network topology must evolve to fit business requirements. Cisco 3750 switches can be stacked in any combination. The stack can be added to as requirements change, again, without any interruption to connectivity or down time, allowing you to easily upgrade your network without any headaches.
  
  
• Smart Multicast: Cisco StackWise technology offers greater efficiency for multicast operations such as video.
  
  
• Superior QoS (Quality of Service): The Cisco 3750 series offers Gigabit Ethernet speed with intelligent services that keep everything flowing smoothly - even at ten times normal network speed.
  
  
• Security: The Cisco 3750 series supports a comprehensive level of security features. Connectivity and access control can be controlled through ACLs, authentication, port-level security, and identity-based network services.
  
  
• Single IP Management: Each Cisco 3750 stack is managed as a single object no matter how many switches there are in the stack. This allows more robust fault detection, virtual LAN creation and modification, security and QoS controls.
  
  
• Jumbo Frames: The Cisco 3750 series supports jumbo 10/100/1000 configurations for advanced data and video applications requiring very large frames.
  
  
• IPv6 Capable - future proof: IPv6 is supported via hardware for optimal performance. As network devices grow and the need for larger addressing schemes and higher security become necessary, the Catalyst 3750 will be ready with the features to meet these requirements.
  
  
• Management Options: With various options for management of the stack, the 3750 series could not be easier to configure. A superior command-line interface allows detailed configuration. In addition Cisco supply the Cisco Cluster Management Suite Software, a browser based tool for configuration based on preset templates. In addition, CiscoWorks supports the Catalyst 3750 Series for network-wide management.
